I have a requirement that needs the report to sort columns(ascending and descending) and I am using DataGrid(Chart) report type for that . Is it possible to have BYDISPLAY ON for DataGrid type?

Using the datagrid option isn't supporting the option to use ON GRAPH SET BYDISPLAY ON.

@Martin Yergeau​  Thank you for providing information. The following process worked for me. I have used a TABLE FILE with PRINT for all columns in a HOLD file and used GRAPH FILE with PRINT using the columns from hold file. Is there a way that this data grid can be exported to excel?

As far as I know, a DataGrid is for displaying at screen only.

If this option exist, I haven't seen it in the doc.

An option, not tested, could be to add a hyperlink in the header (as per example) that will call back a fex to produce the report in Excel.
